The Buffalo History Museum (formerly known as The Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society) is Western New York's premier historical organization, serving since its founding in 1862 to collect, research, interpret, and share the Niagara Frontier's rich history. Major collections among the 80,000-plus items in our care include Pan-American Exposition artifacts and records, the Red Jacket Peace Medal, the Pierce Motorette (a pioneering motor vehicle), and prototype pacemakers.

In 2008, restoration efforts brought the clock back to working order and it was reinstalled in our Museum Shop. Our Guest Services team ranked the Apostolic Clock among the most requested artifacts to view; therefore, the Apostolic Clock is now exhibited with prominence in the Museum. “The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases from a State Hospital Attic” is now on display. The exhibit examines the lives and treatment of patients who were at the Willard State Hospital through patient records and the contents of their suitcases that were discovered when the institution closed in 1995.
